Battle of Who Could Care Less

“Fine pewter portraits of / General Apathy and Major Boredom singing / Whatever and ever Amen”

So here we are again. Another university year done, nearing the end of school terms, summer drifting ominously closer. Dreams of lying-in and of lazing in front of daytime TV are close to fruition. We know we should be productive. We know we shouldn’t vegetate. Some of us have jobs. Some of us have plans.

But this is the truth. “Everyday you wake up late / Sometimes I wish I was that way”. Nobody wants to burn out. So enjoy this slackers’ anthem. From the inevitability of the opening descent to the magical wordplay and subtle confessions, this truly is a gem.

It’s certainly made me think. I don’t want to end up watching The Rockford Files. I want to do something. I want to get somewhere. But then I also want to lie in and listen to music like this and dress up like The Cure. Maybe I’ll learn the piano. Maybe I’ll learn to harmonize. Or whatever. Whatever and Ever. Amen.
